Tema Community 4 takes “progress” into league finals

 Tema Community 4 is set to play Ashaiman Lions in the finals of the 2017 Tema Basketball League on Sunday November on its home court after securing a 2-0 series win over Tema Heat.

Community 4 beat Heat 63-53 over the past weekend in Group B’s Final to progress at the expense of close rival Heat and set up a big clash with Lions who swept Nungua Coldstore in Group A’s Final Series.

According to C4 Coach Nana Kwame Asare, the win and subsequent progression has been a gradual process and far from a one off thing in an interview with Basketballghana.com after his side secured the final spot.

“Now we are here its (the final) is near and as a team we discussed that we are taking every game step by step, we are taking it brick by brick and I think we’ve gotten to where we are supposed to finish the building so wer are taking the trophy” he said.

In Ashaiman, C4 face a tough side aiming to win this year’s championship after missing out in 2016; Lions bundles the reigning champions out of the race for the final spot.

Bukom Banku was not fit for Saturday's fight – Sarkodie

 Rapper Sarkodie thinks that Bukom Banku was not fit to fight in last Saturday’s bout with Bastie Samir.

The rapper’s social media comments on Sunday raised concerns about why the boxer’s camp allowed him to fight.

Bastie Samir knocked Bukom Banku out in round seven of their scheduled 12 round non-title bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday night.

It was Banku’s first defeat, and many thought how he was knocked out was humiliating.

He has since been trending on social media and traditional media circles with many trolling him.

Sarkodie is not a happy about the bout. He said he felt sad for Banku.

“Woke up sad …biggest Bukom Banku fan and heartbroken …he wasn’t looking fit for this bout,” Sarkodie posted on Twitter on Sunday.

Banku seemed not concerned about trolls. He told Accra-based radio Kasapa FM he made GHC50,000 from the defeat.

“I’ve lost the fight, but this is not a correct defeat. Bastie Samir is the winner but this is not a correct defeat. I’ll come back for a return fight on the sixth of March. When I defeated Ayitey Powers, he came for a rematch so Bastie has beaten me and I’ll come back for a return bout,” Banku said.

Ghana's final squad for U-17 World Cup

Ghana U17 coach Paa Kwesi Fabin has named a strong final 21-man squad for next month's World Cup in India, dropping seven players who were part of the squad for the African championship.

According to the squad released by the Ghana FA on Thursday morning, all the key players who thrilled fans at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations tournament have been retained with goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad, striker Eric Ayiah and midfielders Gabriel Leveh and Ibrahim Sulley all maintaining their places.

Some of the new players added to the squad at talented teenage prodigy Aminu Mohammed of WAFA Academy and hugely talented Right to Dream U17 side captain Mohammed Kudus.

The players who were part of the African championship squad and excluded from the World Cup team are Kwadwo Opoku, Patmos Arhin, Samuel Mone Andoh, Kingsley Owusu, Abdul Razak Yusif, Faisal Osman and Isaac Antah.

The Black Starlets boss did not include any foreign-based players in his final squad with just seven players coming from Ghana Premier League sides.

Coach Fabin named his final squad on Thursday morning just hours after playing Mali in a pre-World Cup friendly at their training base in Abu Dhabi.

The coach has strengthened his squad with seven new players who were not part of the squad that played at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon.

This means seven players who were part of the team for the tournament in Gabon have been left out as the coach boosts his squad to challenge for the title in India.

Among the squad are seven players from Ghana Premier League clubs with the rest of players playing for lower tier sides.

Ghana, two-time champions at the FIFA?U-17 World Cup, are looking to end their 22-year trophy drought in a tricky group.

The Black Starlets are placed in Group A along with hosts India, COlombia and United States of America.

They will play their first group match against Colombia in the tournament opener on October 6 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

This will be Ghana's ninth appearance in the FIFA U-17 World Cup and are one of the favourities considering their performance in the CAF qualifiers.
