I love my small size – Eli Kharis

 People who are short or vertically challenged as we like to say and petite often face a lot of teasing for their size and in certain situations, they are not even given the respect they deserve.

For some, their confidence level can take a hit but that’s not so for GHOne presenter, Eli Kharis, who has embraced her stature and sees it more as an asset than a liability.

“I used to be a little intimidated and self-conscious about my size, especially in senior high school when I was the Entertainment Prefect and guys who came searching for me were expecting to see a big girl instead of a petite girl.

“But now I'm not bothered. I just love the compliments from people about how I look younger than my age as well as the kind of effort I put in my work,” the host of Buzz on Rhythms Live told Showbiz in a chat.

“The interesting part of all this is that, I get messages from girls with my body type telling me how I have helped them become confident about their bodies,” she added.

That is not to say she hasn’t had her own challenges as she says she there were a few instances where her size indirectly prevented her from being given bigger projects.

“Throughout the journey so far, yes, I’ve had that a few times but trust me I am never moved, I still go for it. People measure knowledge or dedication to work by body sizes, which I think is very unfair, we should all be given equal opportunities no matter our size,” she said.

With her size, being bullied by some of the guests she interviews is a very real possibility but Eli Kharis insists that won’t happen.

“Bully? I'd never allow that no matter what the person looks like. I think sometimes people misinterpret polite/respectful gestures as you being intimidated but no. Then there is the impression of you being feeble when you’re smaller but that is not the case with me,” she said.

Eli Kharis, born Elinam Amenyo, started TV professionally in 2016 and has hosted a lot of red carpet events including Glitz Africa, the 2017 VGMAs, Ophelia Crossland Swavroski Expose among others and although she may be enjoying success now, she tells Showbiz, there have been tough moments.

“To be honest, the journey hasn't been easy but that doesn't discourage me at all, trust me, it rather pushes me to do more, because I believe they are just phases to equip me for greatness. My mum always says every successful person today never had it easy, they faced the unexpected one way or the other in life and that keeps me going, she told Showbiz.

Eli Kharis describes herself as very outgoing,” but I’m a puzzle to figure out unless you get close enough. I’m also a free-spirited person with a positive outlook on life despite difficult situations and trying to make the most of it.”

Artiste, Manager, Bullet says he has the “button” to destroy Ebony’s career.

Speaking to JOY NEWS, he claimed it will be suicidal for the the latter to leave his label because he “made her” and can crush her career if need be.

“I am supportive of anything my daughter does and anything she wears. I am not ashamed as a father, the truth is that, I choose what she wears and I bless her before she goes out to perform. Some Ghanaians are hypocrites and I am sorry but I am not one of them,” explained Mr. Kwarteng.

“I am not bothered at all. The reason is simple, I know my daughter than anyone else. What people see out there is what we want them to see and that is because she is an artiste and needs a brand that will sell. For God’s sake, she is a Dancehall artiste and she wears what will make her feel confident when performing on stage. Something that will depict the genre of music and songs she churns outs.”
 

He shared his thoughts on the the perception that his daughter is a “bad” girl.

“My daughter is not a bad girl, she is very calm, loving and a respectful person. Whatever she does on stage ends there. She is a different person when she gets home.”

He also spoke about the relationship between himself and his “girl as I usually call her is close to my heart.”

“We are so close that I gave her the go ahead when she told me she wanted to do music. Initially I questioned her decision because, she is a very intelligent girl and was doing extremely well in school and every parent will want his or her child to get to the top of the highest academic ladder. But she insisted music was what she wanted to do. Music is where her heart is and I gave her my blessings. I couldn’t have stopped her because these children are smart.”

Born Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, her song ‘Kupe’ helped her gain mainstream attention in the Ghanaian music industry.

She scored two nominations at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards: Dancehall Artiste of the Year and Best Reggae/ Dancehall Song of the Year .

I dropped out of school in JSS 2 – Nana Ama Mcbrown reveals

Renowned Ghanaian actress, Felicity Ama Agyemang known as Nana Ama McBrown has disclosed that she dropped out of school in JSS 2 due to challenges faced by the family.

She was speaking at the ‘Tek Talk’ at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the Ashanti Region.

She confessed that she did not have the opportunity to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) while she was a student at Kwadaso L.A. J.S.S.

“I dropped out of JSS because my parents were unable to finance my education. I don’t have a certificate even though I wish I had.”

She blamed this on the large family size at the time coupled with the economic situation. She had to leave school to pursue other interests, especially professional football which she was good at.

Though she observed that it has remained one of the major challenges in her life, it does not suggest the end of life as she appears to be doing well in other areas. She however hinted of plans to further her education in the near future.

“I don’t have the degree or the educational certificates but I will do them someday. I want to use this opportunity to urge you not to allow challenges like this to weigh you down. Be yourself and do not strive to be like Nana Ama McBrown because you will remain in my shadow if you want to be like me,” she advised.

VVIP will never never perform on stage with Shatta Wale" - Prodigal

A member of mutiple award winning group, VVIP , Prodigal  has made   clear   with   much   resentment that the   family   will never perform on the same stage with dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.

Church Of Pentecost accepts cocoa beans as tithes from cocoa farmers

This is an initiative of the Anakum District Minister Overseer Isaac Donkoh to provide a convenient means for cocoa farmers to pay their tithes faithfully.

 Cocoa farmers at Asankrangwa in the Western Region who are members of the Church of Pentecost paid their tithes for the month of October with cocoa beans.

According to Accra-based Starr FM, this is an initiative of the Anakum District Minister Overseer Isaac Donkoh.

This is to provide a convenient means for cocoa farmers to pay their tithes faithfully.

This also gives the Asankragwa Area Head, Apostle Robert Christian Arkoh, an opportunity to pray over the farm produce and for the Lord to heal their lands due to a decline in harvest.

The cocoa beans were brought to the Anakum Central church on November 10, 2017, to mark the opening of a new stock for the cocoa season and to dedicate the farm produce to the Lord.

Speaking on the topic “I Am An Example Of Christ In Wealth Creation”, Apostle Ackon said that Abraham became wealthy because he revered God and was faithful to Him by giving God a tenth of his earnings to Melchizedek the High Priest. (Genesis 13:2)

“The Bible describes tithe defaulters as robbers instead of thieves because a thief will steal in your absence but a robber will steal in your presence and forcefully take what is legally yours.”

“The God who never sleeps nor slumber, the all-knowing One, is watching our actions of unfaithfulness. We must therefore repent and turn to the One who is able to bless those who remain faithful to Him,” Apostle Ackon added.

The service was climaxed with a prayer over the cocoa beans for a better harvest in the next farming season. The prayer was led by Apostle Ackon, Overseer Isaac Donkoh and other elders present.

The District Minister, Overseer Isaac Donkoh disclosed that, in all, 36 bags of cocoa beans at a total cost of GH₵ 17,100.00, together with a cash amount of GH₵1,200.00 was realized as the gross tithe of the Anakum District for the month of October.

Ghanaian Gospel artistes are hypocrites – MzVee

Dancehall artiste, MzVee has described Gospel musicians in the country as hypocrites who see gospel to only be about quoting verses from the bible.

The artiste who was speaking in an interview with Accra-based Hitz FM indicated that Ghanaian gospel musicians are of the thinking that a musician who centers his or her songs on love and other social issues as agents of the devil; a perception she sees as hypocritical.

To her, secular artistes are not devilish but are also doing their best with their innate abilities to also help in the Kingdom business.

She indicated that most of her song inspires people and cause change in society and that is also her contribution to the Kingdom business.

She said “I have so many of my fans who message me and they actually pray for me and this is the nicest part of what I do. People are so emotional about some of my songs and they always tell in messages how I inspire them with my songs and how their lives are changed by a certain message in my songs. And it doesn’t have to be some type of gospel song that people want to hear before they say it’s a Christian song”.

An 18-year-old Japanese girl is suing her local government after her school made her repeatedly dye her naturally-brown hair black, media reports say.

The girl says she was told she would have to leave the high school near Osaka if she did not comply with a rule requiring students' hair to be black.

It is being reported that she says the dye damaged her hair and her scalp.

Kaifukan high school said its policy was to ban students from dyeing or bleaching hair.

The school's instruction to the girl to dye her hair was reportedly despite her mother telling the school that she was born with brownish hair.

Reports say the girl has not attended school since September last year.

She is said to be asking for $19,300 (£14,700) in damages. Local media say that Osaka prefecture is asking the court to reject the claim.

Kaifukan's headteacher Masahiko Takahashi did not comment on the lawsuit.

Many Japanese schools have strict rules about appearance, including hair colour, the use of make up and the length of skirts.

Earlier this year a survey by the Asahi Shimbun newspaper found that nearly 60% of high schools in the capital Tokyo asked students with light-coloured hair for proof that this was natural, for example by providing photographs of them as infants.

The newspaper said that discipline was seen as a strong selling point for schools amid growing competition to attract new students given the country's declining birth rate.

Former Guatemala leader Otto Pérez Molina to face trial

A judge in Guatemala has ruled that former president Otto Pérez Molina will stand trial for his alleged role in a huge corruption scheme involving the country's customs service.

The scandal prompted unprecedented mass street protests in Guatemala in 2015.

It led to the resignation and arrest of Mr Pérez Molina and former vice-president Roxana Baldetti.

They are accused of taking a cut from bribes channelled to officials helping businesses evade customs duties.

Both strongly deny the accusations.

The bribery scam has become known as "La Linea" or "The Line", after the hotline businesses allegedly rang to clear their imports through customs at cut-price rates.

'Neither corrupt, nor a thief'

Judge Miguel Ángel Gálvez, in Guatemala City, said that Mr Pérez Molina and Ms Baldetti were aware of the irregularities and received millions of dollars in bribes.

Another 26 people, including former senior officials from Guatemala's customs duty system, have also been charged and will face trial.

Mr Pérez Molina has been charged with racketeering, illicit enrichment and fraud.

He resigned in September 2015, at the end of his four-year term.

In the wake of the scandal, Guatemalans elected a former television comedian, Jimmy Morales, as their new president.

Mr Morales, who had never held public office, won the election with the slogan, "Neither corrupt, nor a thief".

The United States is seeking Ms Baldetti's extradition on drug trafficking charges.

Prosecutors in Washington DC accuse her of conspiring to import cocaine to the US between 2010 and 2015.

Rumour ends in fires and a death in Kenya

It all started with a rumour: the Mungiki, a dreaded Kikuyu tribal militia, had infiltrated Nairobi’s Kawangware slum. Within minutes, local men already fired up by Kenya’s divisive election had grabbed machetes and sticks to defend their turf.

By the end of Friday night’s confrontation, a man had been beaten to death and rows of shops and homes set alight, a worrying taste of how quickly ethnic violence can erupt in the Kenyan capital’s volatile slums.

Almost all the 50 deaths since August’s presidential vote have been in clashes between protesters and police.

The deeper fear of Kenyans is that the months of political strife, exacerbated by the courts annulling the August vote, eat away at deep tribal divisions and ignite a wave of inter-ethnic violence, as happened after a disputed 2007 vote when 1,200 people were killed.

The Kawangware fighting was sparked by rumours that Kikuyu, the tribe of President Uhuru Kenyatta, had drafted in members of the Mungiki to protect them from opposition supporters.

On Friday, a Reuters witness saw a group of men armed with machetes, known locally as pangas, on the streets of Kawangware.

Their identity was unclear, although several residents said they were Mungiki, brought in after opposition loyalists burnt down a prominent Kikuyu-owned business the previous night.

The Mungiki, notorious for castrating and decapitating victims, were blamed for hundreds of deaths in the 2007 clashes. Their relative quiet since has not diminished their reputation.

“They were more than a hundred, and they were carrying all new pangas,” Vitalis Aloyi, a Kawangware resident, said.

Another man said residents had to act to defend themselves.

“We had to teach them not to bring Mungiki here. If they bring Mungiki, we will destroy their property and their lives,” said Kennedy Ochieng, an ethnic Luo, like opposition leader Raila Odinga.

SMOKE RISING

As the pro-Odinga vigilantes, also armed with clubs and machetes, swept down the muddy street they set fire to Kikuyu businesses suspected of hiding Mungiki militiamen, Ochieng said.

One man was killed, and his body burned, leaving a charred spot on the road. Some Odinga supporters denounced him as Mungiki, but no one could explain how they knew.

The next day, with smoke still rising from the twisted wreckage of homes and shops, the remaining traders in Kawangware began loading their wares of pipes, popcorn machines and meat onto trucks.

“All the other tribes are against the Kikuyu here because of the voting,” said Stephen Kamau, whose fruit stall was burned down. “These people will come back and burn more.”

Others in the district, long home to mixed communities, said the truth was more nuanced. As political tensions rose, some businesses had hired local youths for protection, said Rhoda Kungu, a market trader.

She insisted the vigilantes were not Mungiki.

“We are all brothers and sisters. We just want to live in peace,” she said.

Another trader, Brian Njenga, said it may merely have been pro-Odinga youths spotting a chance to enrich themselves, demanding protection money or looting businesses before they burned them.

“Some people are just using this situation to get personal benefit,” Njenga said to sombre nods from a crowd of youths around him. “Many have not worked for a long time because the economy is very down.”

A few hundeds meters down the rubbish-strewn road, hundreds of young men milled around on street corners. Teargas from the night before lingered in the air.

“We want to kill Mungiki. They must know this is our territory,” one man shouted. “Don’t think because it is quiet now that we are at peace. We are just waiting for something!”

Hiplife musician Captain Planet has told Citi Showbiz in an exclusive interview that he has not broken away from the 4×4 music trio as has been recently speculated.

According to him, the rumour circulating that the group has collapsed after the release of his latest hit song, is not true.

Controversial Prophet Women sent seductive naked videos asking to have sex with me - Kumchacha According to Kumchacha, the women have threatened to rape him should he go ahead to seek the injunction.

Founder and leader of Heaven’s Gate Ministries, Prophet Nicholas Osei popularly known as Prophet Kumchacha has said some women have sent him naked videos seducing him to have sex with them.

His comment comes at the back of his decision to seek an injunction on popular song 'One Corner by  Swedru based artist, Patapaa.

According to him, the women have threatened to rape him should he go ahead to seek the injunction.

Speaking to Kofi TV, he revealed that, the hit song is influencing some Ghanaian children as well as adults and has increased promiscuity among the Ghanaian youth.

Though,  the controversial pastor is lacing his boots to court, he said some women claiming to be girlfriends of Patapaa have bombarded his mobile phone with naked videos.

 "The women sent me naked videos seducing me to have sex with them. Prophet Kumchacha come and chop in fact I’m threatened," he said.

He added: there it was crucial we condemn the song before it destroys the country.

Kumchacha was of the opinion that, songs are supposed to inspire people and help change their ways but such is not so with the One Corner song which has taken the country by storm adding that recent songs rather deteriorate morality in the country.

He hopes the court will grant his injunction to prevent any individual from playing the song in any public space.

After a decade of successful musical career, Ghanaian songstress Rebecca Akosua Acheampong, who’s known in showbiz as Becca, says she wants to marry.

However, appearing on TV3’s morning magazine show New Day on Friday, Becca said though she’s dating, she does not want to rush into marriage and would wait upon God. “I do wanna get married and I am gonna get married. I think, again, I am gonna say we the Africans we say ‘Nyame Mmer? ne mr? pa’ [to wit God’s time is the best].

You know, so let me just wait for God’s time,” she told Johnnie Hughes. Although the 33-year-old has admitted she’s dating, she’s remained tight-lipped on the man behind her; something that has given rise to speculations that she’s dating high-life musician, Bisa K’Dei, with whom she recorded her popular song B3shiwo.

But is there somebody there? Johnnie asked, to which Becca beamed with a coy smile and answered, “There is a somebody, yes!”. Johnnie then asked her: ‘Would you want to make him popular?’

“Ah yes!” Becca replied, but when told to go ahead to make him popular by giving out the name of her Mr. Right, she paused, and said, “well”, and then cleared her throat before continuing to say “I just wanna tell him I love him. he’s watching”.

Becca also used the opportunity to debunked rumours that she has bleached her skin, and to talk about her Unveiling album to mark her 10 years anniversary among other issues.

I've slept with five women – Don Little

Kumawood actor, Don Little has asked the world and followers not to tag him as a “small boy” because he is an old man who is also not a virgin.

According to the actor who featured in Sarkodie’s ‘gbozaa’ video, he is twenty years of age and a JHS graduate.

He indicated that he has slept with five ladies adding that he has taste for women with big butt and not flat bottom flasks adding that he has  also slept with one of his Kumawood colleagues.

I have proposed to many Kumawood actresses - Papa Kumasi

In the wake of hullabaloos about actors proposing to young actress Maame Serwaa, Kumawood actor Papa Kumasi has made a confession.

The actor has admitted that he has proposed to several ladies in the movie industry.

The actor cum TV host in a jibber-jabber on Celebrity Ride with Zionfelix opined that it is normal for actors to propose to females in the movie industry so he sees nothing wrong with his actions.

The actor known privately as Clement Nana Sarfo added that one of the actresses agreed to date her after throwing his love proposals around.

He continued that most actors fall in love on set but the relationship fails because of the nature of the job. When asked if any of the actresses have expressed interest in him, Papa Kumasi said answered no.

“I’m not sure any actress will call to propose to you because we are all family members.,” he told Zionfelix on the show.
